MADDALENA SOLER

VIOLINIST

Biography
& Info

Born in Milan in 1987, she discovered her passion for music at an early age.

Surrounded by the melodies and dances of folk tradition, she began exploring music as a child and took up the violin at the age of 11.

She attended primary and secondary schools with a specialist music curriculum before enrolling at the Accademia di Musica di Milano, now the Civica Claudio Abbado. There, she studied for several years with Alberto Intrieri and Carlo De Martini and was an active member of the school's youth orchestra.

The daughter of a traditional dancer, she entered the world of folk music at 14 with Underfolk, an ensemble of very young musicians, confirming her love for the genre.

In 2007, she joined Musiche Selvagge, a project exploring the traditional repertoire of the “4 Province” area, and recorded the album “Sentrè”. In 2008, she became a member of Barabàn, founded in Milan in 1982 by leading Italian folk music researchers and performers, and continues to collaborate with the group. Also in 2008, she co-founded Alzamantes with accordionist Dario Tornaghi; it became her main musical project.

In 2016, she discovered the traditional music of the Marche region, falling in love with saltarelli, Pasquelle and stornelli through her work with the traditional group Lu Trainanà, appearing on their album “Dieci anni”, and the duo Meo-Lucanero.

Two dance music projects followed in 2017: her friend and diatonic accordionist Andrea Capezzuoli invited her to form the duo Soleluna, while she founded BrothAn Trio with her brother Jacopo Soler on flute and Antonio Neglia on guitar.

Over the years, she has taught introductory music and folk dance classes in schools under the guidance of Roberto Gallina. She furthered her education by following the musicology curriculum within a Cultural Heritage degree programme.
